Even the most experienced lift truck operators can find themselves in hazardous and potentially dangerous situations. Serious accidents can and do occur without proper training.

Training is a legal requirement. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 require employers to ensure that lift trucks are operated only be employees who have received appropriate training and assessment in accordance with the Code of Practice for lift trucks laid down by the Health and Safety Commission.

The course content includes:

• The essential features of lift truck and their maintenance
• How to avoid the potential dangers of lift truck operation
• How to assess loads and move them safely
• How to get the best from your lift truck in different conditions
• The relevant legal requirements

REVISED FORK LIFT TRUCK CLASSIFICATION

As from 1st January 2004 Fork Lift Truck courses are being reclassified as follows:

• Industrial Masted below 5 tonnes
• Industrial Masted above 5 tonnes
• Sideloaders
• Industrial Telescopic
• Rough Terrain Telescopic up to 9m
• Rough Terrain Telescopic over 9m
• Reach Trucks
• A classification for Lorry Transportable Lift Trucks (e.g. Moffat Mounties) will be introduced by Mid 2004
